What will your home project cost where you live?

Local cost ranges for 38 home projects in 300 US metros. We take national price ranges and adjust them with your area's real wages and prices, then show you the math.

What the data shows

BEA's 2024 regional price index runs from 83.6 in Monroe, LA to 115.6 in San Francisco, CA (US = 100) across the 300 metros here, and trade wages differ by more than that. A job that is mostly materials follows the price index; a job that is mostly labor follows local pay, so the same project can sit 38% apart on prices alone before wages are counted.

How the numbers are built

  1. National price range for each project, from published cost guides and retailer list prices. Each figure has a source and a date.
  2. Local labor scaled by the median wage of the trades that do the work in your metro, from the Bureau of Labor Statistics (May 2025).
  3. Local materials and permits scaled by the Bureau of Economic Analysis regional price parities (2024).
  4. You get a range, not a single number, because real quotes vary with access, spec and how busy the contractor is.
